Homeschooling Reflections

We have finished one full year of homeschooling and then jumped into a most chaotic summer trying to move. We're here in the new house and getting settled and trying out different routines. We'll find the groove we're suppose to be in soon, but until then we'll keep chugging along.

I learned so much my first year out of the gate. So many things were a surprise. I thought that all homeschoolers were just like me. That we all did things for the same reasons. That we all would have the same parenting philosophies. Wow. That was the shock of the year! We are a mixed crowd! And what a beautiful thing that is! It just took me off guard I guess.

I have seen so many fruits from homeschooling already. Don't get me wrong. There are days that I think I may have to not only put my kids in school, but possibly boarding school. In Europe. But most days - when I make the perfectionist in me be quiet - I see the fruits. I love seeing how my children tick. What makes them learn well. What makes them excited. These first few years of homeschooling Ben, I'm focusing on creating a love of learning. For him that's easy. That kid is a sponge! He devours any information you send his way.

Peter will be a different story.

And so will Greta.
